HK Malmö was one of 34 clubs from Sweden that had teams playing during Malmöspelen 2017. They participated with four teams in Pojkar 04, Pojkar 05 and Pojkar 08 respectively. The team in Pojkar 04 made it to the the Final in A-slutspel, but lost it against HK Malmö/ Ljunghusen 1 by 16-17.
In addition to this, HK Malmö have participated in Malmöspelen before. During Malmöspelen 2016, Malmö had 5 teams playing in Pojkar 04, Pojkar 05, Flickor 03 and Flickor 05 respectively. Two teams played until Final in A-slutspel; Pojkar 04 lost against HK Ankaret 1 by 7-13 and Flickor 05 1 lost against Trelleborg HBK by 5-7. Malmö originates from Malmö, which is the same city as where Malmöspelen takes place. The area around Malmö does also provide 29 additional clubs participating during Malmöspelen 2017 (Among others: Skurups Handboll, IFK Klagshamn, H43 Lund, Trelleborg HBK, Eslövs Hf, HK Ankaret, IFK-Malmö, Stapelbäddsskolan, Svedala HK and LHK).
